The cause of rhabdomyolysis may not always be clear, but common symptoms directly in the muscles include:
Pain
Swelling (Edema)
Tenderness
Weakness
Should the swelling progress rapidly, it may also result in other symptoms, as the fluid in the bloodstream has been depleted:
Low blood pressure
Shock
The swelling of muscle tissue may lead to compartment syndrome, which carries its own set of symptoms. Some of this condition's symptoms include: pain, paresthesias, paralysis and pressure, amongst others.
As the muscle tissue breaks down and its components are released into the bloodstream, certain other symptoms may occur due to the disturbances in in electrolytes and other factors. Some of these symptoms include the following:
Blood clotting
Cardiac arrhythmias
Coma
Confusion
Dark urine
Decreased or absent urine output (oliguria or anuria)
Nausea and vomiting
